Pulitzer-Prize winning art critic, author and commentator on the sprawling, crazy-quilt art world of today, Jerry Saltz wrote a book called, “How to be an Artist”. In that book he spoke to artists about working outside of their usual “serious mode” and just approaching their materials with a “play-full, what the hell” attitude which I promptly did. I approached “Double Orange” with this in mind. I took the scissors to a piece I considered “so-so” and re-arranged it from one piece into two. The idea of “partial messages”, noises - loud & soft; scenes from memory amidst passages in real life were some of the ideas that comprised this piece.
