Mixed Media, collage, painting with glass by Madonna Phillips of the United States, circa 2107. It is a large 36" H x 36" W square work on a wood panel. Madonna's starting point is usually a collage from found materials. These materials are layered and painted, then hand cut pieces of glass are reverse painted and applied to the surface. Around each piece of glass she pours a clear medium to fuse the piece together. The result is a shimmering surface with constantly changing reflection as the viewer passes by. This piece is in excellent condition.
Madonna Phillips studied with a master stained glass painter and after experimenting with different techniques created her unique mixed media paintings. She is inspired by the qualities of glass and it’s relationship to design, architecture, science and the connections between art and design. Phillip's work has been exhibited through out the United States as well as in private collections such as Carol Burnett and the Mary Jo and Richard Bell Collection.
