Mattia Novello

The Artist

Mattia was born in Thiene, Italy October 6, 1985, and lives and works in Castelfranco Veneto (TV) ITALY. He graduated in visual communication at the European Institute of Design in Milan, then in fashion photography at the School of Visual Art in New York, and in Mixed Media Art at the Parson School, also in New York.

His work appears as a path of inner growth, conceived not only as an attempt to climb to the peaks of perfection, but also as a difficult route between disorientation, restlessness, tension.

His pieces visualize the plunging downwards, towards areas where conceptual reason loses confidence, but at the same time push to rise up to the summit of ideals. Concepts are proposed as a precipitate of visual paradoxes and dialectical tensions reached for a rebirth. The light, self-awareness, seems to suggest to this young artist-philosopher that you can reach only in silence, after going through difficulties and darkness. Thus, in the photographs Walls Urbane, gaze collides and is barred by the dark black walls - just crossed by a light touch of lightness, like a breath of hope - only to be dragged up in the series Abstract Shapes Town, in whose assets and candid glimpse of skyscrapers open in the infinite gloomy sky.

In the series of works in series resin, various objects are freed from the heavy burden of the matter into a crystalline transparency, an index of possible rebirth in a purity that is opposed to the evils of the world. Again the author depicts a sublimation process that does not deny the darkness and evil, but part of it and patiently, over time, moves toward the light. (Annamaria D' Ambrosio Art Curator)

Poetic

The Limits of Man

The artist starts from the observation that nothing really has a beginning or an end. Small, large, matter, nonmatter are not absolute dimensions. Every form and attempt to classify what surrounds us demonstrates the human impossibility of grasping the complexity of the surrounding universe, of the Whole. The same progress and idea of time - present, past and future - are proper to man and not innate in the objects and phenomena investigated. The task of the artist is to recognize the limit inherent in man and his gnoseological process, trying to come to grasp and represent the essence of reality, beyond what is known or presumed to know. In all his works, Mattia Novello tries to grasp the essence of reality coming to the conclusion that time is circular, that the present, the past and the future coexist in a single eternal present, that the infinitely small is also infinitely large. From the fascination for the eternal Nietzschean return there is no loss or nihilism, but rather a vision of secular pantheism. Mattia thus suggests a possible path to the search for meaning and meaning, because in the end what man sees as a contradiction is actually part of a whole. If the sense of the Whole is not humanly reachable, for the artist the answer is the research itself, the tension to always go further, to communicate the intuition of the Whole, which resides, as mentioned, in the connection between the opposites and the human contradictions.

Caresses From Olympus

Man every day undertakes a journey to discover himself, in an era where migrants are at the center of humanity this sculpture tries to represent how man always tries to overcome difficulties by clinging to life, clinging to his ideal of freedom, of well-being. The man apparently seems colorless (white color) but strongly survives by covering himself with a thermal blanket, a symbol of hope. With this sculpture he wanted to represent how man relies on higher divinities to live, we live in a "cold" planet but thanks to our beliefs and our prayers this entity keeps us alive and protected.

FLAT LAYERS

Flat Layers is the search of the artist to make an opposite process, focusing in the production of a two-dimensional three-dimensional object, the light and shadows are exposed on canvas through the use of a tire, (object/engine/ life, but in contact with the road, tar and dirt) now takes on another meaning as a means to create a painting material.

"With these paintings I wanted to replace the brush with a car tire and represent a three-dimensional object, with all its planes, light and shadows but on one level, using the canvas as a sculpture and representing the perfect shape in nature, the circularity."
