‘Immediately Family’ is a large horizontal oil on canvas figurative painting created by Vietnamese artist Dang Xuan Hoa in 2008. Featuring a soft palette mostly made of blue, purple, grey, yellow and orange tones, the painting seizes our hearts with its moving depiction of a family, each member represented with linear features, grey hair and a blue mouth. Their faces, invaded by tears, echo the rain that is falling in the background. Three anonymous hands hover above some of the characters, while a small bird is crossing the sky, in a zone unaffected by the rain. “Immediately Family’, along with ‘Family Love’, are two in a series of five paintings which exemplify Hoa’s deep intimate connections with his family.
