Jung Kuk Taek South Korea, b. 1971

My work starts from the expression of life in the present day as felt and seen through real experiences and situations. By expressing the present situation or cultural background, the element of 'art(picture/drawing)' was added to the concept of 'sculpture'. As a result, satirical and narrative elements were strongly introduced in the diverse expression of situations and one complete story is thrown to the spectator.

Hence, in my work the image of modern man, is distinctly expressed like an illustration.  I seek concepts and satires in my moulds that is comparatively easy for spectators to relate to.

Satires are not simply reproductions of the social aspects of the times and the appearance of man in extreme situations. It is a metaphorically method of expression which expresses negative elements humorously, thus providing delight to the way people think. At first, laughter is aroused from the spectators but in the end the works make people think about the true image of modern man. They realize that it is their own image.

These sort of satirical and narrative depictions which generally appears in my work, provides intimacy, and the interpretation of my work comes with ease. Furthermore, all elements which appear in my work have been produced to adapt to each situation and thus emphasizes the theme. With satire and wit, my work is composed to present a drama-like story.
